Characteristics: All types of wet mountain environments: peat bogs, rushlands, stream beds, springs, etc. A rhizomatous plant, with leaves light green and 2-5 mm in width. It has two types of spikes: one male and various females per plant. The glumes are a ferruginous-brown, shorter than the utricles. These are trigonal or conical, glabrous and without a beak. The fructifying spikes are lax.
