Characteristics: Wet ruderal areas, moist grazed meadows, stream beds, forest borders, etc. A rhizomatous plant that forms two types of spikes, female and male (this one greater than one in number). Differs from other Carex by its densely pubescent utricles, some 5-7 mm and a well developed beak. Additionally, the leaves are relatively wide (2-5 mm), flat and pilose.
