Characteristics: An erect plant that from a reddish or lilac floral capitula with long ligules and even longer bracts that open outwardly. The leaves are linear yet ample at the base, as those of a monocot. Can be told apart from Tragopogon hybridus because the achenes of the same capitulum are more or les the same size, while for the latter species the outer achens are of a different size than those of then centre. Flowers in May towards the end of spring.
