Characteristics: This false brome has leaves which are longer than Brachypodium retusum. It can appear in garrigues (Mediterranean woodland) and pine woods, but is more abundant near arable land in slightly humid places. It can be distinguished from Brachypodium retusum because of the concentration of the leaves at the base of the plant, as they are not arranged distichously, and because of the prominences of the veins on the leaves. Moreover, the spikelets are usually arched and rigid.
