Genus: Juncus

IUCN Category: Least concern
Flowering time: JanFebMarAprMayJunJulAugSepOctNovDec
Life-forms: Geophyte. Hemicryptophyte.
Habitats: Non-saline wetlands (intermittent watercourses, streams, artesian wells, ditches). Wet lands.
Characteristics: This rush forms rhizomes and one usually finds the population growing more or less in a row, and the stems and leaves tender and green. The leaves are transversely articulated. A cross leaf cross section reveals that the leaf ribs are divided into various tubes, (which are longitudinally septate). The inflorescence is very wide and loose, with the radii separate and branching off in all directions. Lives alongside and can be confused with Juncus articulatus, although this species does not have septate leaves and can be easily crushed between the fingers. Flowers from May to June.
