Characteristics: Forest communities and rocky, in cool and shady places (alderwoods, beechwoods, ash groves'). Generally on calcareous soils. A fern with a very thick rhizome. The petiole and rachis are covered with dark scales. The fronds are incompletely bipinnnatisect, with inferior segments slightly asymmetrical. The pinnules are crenate, dentate at the apex (with sharp teeth), ± concrescent at the base. The sori are located on the frond reverse, are circular and have a caducous indusium.
